Craig S. Mullins is a data management strategist, researcher, and consultant. He is also the publisher and managing editor of the TheDatabaseSite.
Craig has nearly three decades of experience in all facets of database systems development including systems analysis and design, database and system administration, data analysis and modeling, and developing and teaching DB2 and SQL classes. He has worked with DB2 for z/OS since Version 1 and has experience working with other database technology including Microsoft SQL Server, Sybase and IMS. Craig has worked in multiple industries including manufacturing, banking, commercial software development, education, research, utilities, and consulting.
Craig was appointed as an IBM Information Champion in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.
Books
Craig is the author of the book DB2 Developer’s Guide published by IBM Press. The book contains more than 1500 pages of in-depth technical information on DB2 for z/OS and is currently in its 6th edition.
Craig is also the author of Database Administration: The Complete Guide to DBA Practices and Procedures, published by Addison Wesley. This book, currently in its 2nd edition, offers the industry’s only comprehensive guide to heterogeneous database administration. More information is available here.

Craig is also a frequent contributor to computer industry publications, having authored more than one hundred articles in the past several years. His articles have appeared in popular industry magazines including DM Review, DBMS, DB2 Update, DB2 Magazine, Oracle Update, SQL Server Update, and many others. Craig writes several regular columns including:
- a regular monthly column called The DBA Corner for Database Trends and Applications magazine,
- a quarterly column called The Database Report for TDAN (The Data Administration Newsletter), and;
- the Data Perspectives column for Enterprise Tech Journal.
Lecturer
Craig is a frequent speaker at industry conferences and user groups. He has spoken to thousands of technicians about database management and administration issues at such conferences as Database and Client/Server World, SHARE, GUIDE, DAMA Symposium and Metadata Conference, the Business Rules Summit, the IBM DB2 Technical Conference, the IBM Information on Demand conferences, the International DB2 Users Group (IDUG), and Oracle World. He has also spoken at regional DAMA and CMG meetings, and at database user groups across North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.
Craig is also a member of the IDUG volunteers hall of fame.
