Hello, and welcome to my new blog on the topic of database systems, technology, and everything in between and related to that! My name is Craig S. Mullins and you may know me from my work as a database administrator, my books, or my regular columns on database technology in several industry publications:
- I write the bi-monthly z/Data Perspectives column in z/Journal Magazine
- I write the monthly DBA Corner column for Database Trends & Applications
- I write the quarterly Database Report column for TDAN.com
- and I write a regular column called The Buffer Pool for IDUG Solutions Journal
I write articles for other magazines, as well as white papers on database issues. I’m also a regular speaker at industry conferences and user groups. If you’re interested in learning more about me, check out my web site at www.CraigSMullins.com.
Those of you who know me also know that I have another blog devoted to DB2 and mainframe issues (DB2 Portal), so why another blog?
Well, this blog will be much broader in scope. Here we will discuss data management and database issues, news, thoughts, and trends. The coverage will not be limited to a single DBMS, nor will it be limited to just database issues. I’ll regularly look at related issues such as metadata, data architecture, MDM, and data administration. If it is data or information related, it is fair game for this blog.
Also, I love books and I’m an avid reader. That image at the top of the blog, that is a very small portion of the actual bookshelves of database books in my home office. So, at times, I will write about recently published books on data management and IT issues on this blog.
I try to keep both blogs active, posting at least one new entry, usually more, every week… and comments are welcome on both blogs.
So check back frequently and we’ll examine what’s happening in the world of Data and Technology Today!
